Flies for spring fishing

I must admit that I fell back into my old style fly patterns, a simple three wing design in orange. But the main difference is that I used bucktail again. Many years my flies were in tempelhund and polar fox fibers. But, personally I think, well the fibers are good but do not hold the form too good in strong currents for larger flies. In spring fishing is deep and slow, with large flies, and I think the fish needs to be triggered of a big fly.

See to the right the flies I prepared for this year fishing in spring.

Premiär Fishing 2023

This year the weather conditions were quite good, no rain, not too windy and som clouds. In the river the flow was as usual large, ca. 45 m3/s and water temperature was 3 degree. So again very heavy lines and slow fishing to come into contact with the fish. I fish with a Hardy Zenith 14 foot and a guideline shooting heat sink 4/5 to get the sink rate required for this.

We fished two days, and the first day not even a bite. Sure there were fish, but it was rather a bad start, here and there a fish was caught, but not very much activity. Second day we focused on the pools which alwasy hold fish and there we got lucky.

My files turned out working well, and I got a seatrout about 3 kg, no problem landing it myself and realeased right away. The biggest luck this day was a salmon about 14 kg in quite good condition. The drill took 30 min and some help was required to land the fish. Also this beautiful salmon was realeased to its enviroment again. So all in all we were happy and it was again an unforgettable experience. Hopefully we come back next year.
